Add custom table columns
For some tables, you can add custom columns (e.g., to the Plate Sample List section of the Plates page and Sample List section of the Projects page). Any custom column you add to one of these tables is available for the other tables. You can show and hide custom columns like any other column.
The custom columns you add will be available across all Spaces.
-
On the table for which you want to add a custom column, select the Space you want to work in from the Space list.
-
Open the page for whose table custom columns are supported.
-
Select
Menu and select the Add custom columns to open the Add Custom Column dialog. -
Complete the fields.
-
Custom Header — A unique name for this custom field (column) for this table.
To craft a valid name, follow these guidelines:
-
Spaces, hyphens, and other punctuation are not allowed.
-
Keep names short to avoid having the column be wider than necessary when shown in the table.
-
For readability, use underscores to separate words (e.g.,
MY_FIELD). -
The Custom Name field is not case-sensitive and will not preserve capitalization. Once the custom field is saved, all letters will be uppercase in theDisplay columns list and when shown in the table.
-
-
Description — The description of the custom field.
-
Notes — Additional information about the custom field.
-
-
Select Add Column.
The new custom field (column) appears at the bottom of the Display columns list, available for selection. Note the prefix
CUSTOM_(e.g.,CUSTOM_MY_FIELD).
